생태계서비스란?
 

생태계서비스는 자연이 우리에게 주는 혜택(서비스). 

서비스의 종류에는 공급서비스 (농림수산물 및 천연자원), 조절서비스 (오염정화, 홍수 및 침식 방지, 서식지제공, 병충해 예방 등), 문화서비스 (경관, 관광, 휴양 등)와 이러한 서비스를 가능하게 하는 지지서비스(생물다양성, 영양순환, 기초생산 등)가 있다. 

 

생태계서비스 파트너십 네트워크(ESP, Ecosystem Services Partnership)는 생태계서비스를 연구하는 학자나 기관들이 함께 생태계가치평가 작업을 하기도 하고, 학회로서 학술적 교류를 진행한다.

 

국내 기관 중에는 국립생태원, 환경정책평가연구원 등 여러 연구기관이 참여하고 있는데, 비연구기관으로서 국립공원관리공단과 자연환경국민신탁이 생태계서비스에 관해 적용과 실행에 적극 참여중이다.

TEEB

지구 자연자본과 생태계서비스에 대한 화폐가치 연구(Costanza et al., 1997)가 발표된 이후 생태경제학자들은 생태계서비스에 대한 연구를 더 활발히 진행했고, UNEP의 지원으로 새천년생태계평가도 이루어졌다.  보고서는 인간후생(wellbeing)에 관해 생태계서비스가 어떤 관계에 있는지 평가하였다. 이에 관한 보고서는 아래의 링크에서 만나볼 수 있다.  우측 그림은 후생과 생태계서비스의 관계를 묘사하고 있다. 

생태계와 생물다양성의 경제학(TEEB)

 "눈에 보이지 않는 생태계서비스를 드러내 보이자"라는 기치아래 새천년생태계평가 이후 2007년 13개국이 중심이 되어 만들어진 글로벌 이니셔티브 프로젝트.  TEEB foundation이 사무국이 되어 I, II, III 단계로 진행되었고, 다음과 같은 원칙을 따른다.

  • 가치표현 (Demonstrating value)

  • 가치적용 (Capturing value)

​현재 TEEB는 주로 국가 생태계서비스 평가, Biome (생물권: 습지, 산림, 연안 등)별로 평가를 진행하고 있다. TEEB의 아래 링크를 통해 도시 및 기업에 대한 가이드라인 등 다양한 보고서를 접할 수 있다.
